Sunak told delegates that a “fundamental shift” is needed to confront a food-security crisis that is being worsened by climate change. He focused on the role of science and said the U.K. would set up a “virtual science hub” linking international researchers working on more resilient crops. “Climate change, conflict and population rise mean ever greater challenges to food supplies," Sunak said. “So we need a fundamental shift in the way we approach food security, with a focus on long-term solutions to stop food crises before they start. An International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) convoy of trucks carrying medical aid arrives at the Al-Shifa medical hospital in Gaza City, Gaza, on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023. Israel announced that it will allow two tanker trucks of fuel into Gaza each day for the U.N. and communication systems. It has also blocked food, water and other supplies except for a trickle of aid from Egypt that aid workers say falls far short of what's needed. The communications blackout largely cut off Gaza's 2.3 million people from one another and the outside world. "An extended blackout means an extended suspension of our humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip," Touma told The Associated Press.

CNN —Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan has called for a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas, saying that supporting the protection of Palestinian lives does not equal being antisemitic or pro-terrorism. Being pro-Palestinian is not being antisemitic, being pro-Palestinian does not mean you’re pro-Hamas or pro-terrorism,” Rania told CNN’s Becky Anderson on Sunday. “What we’ve seen in recent years is the charge of antisemitism being weaponized in order to silence any criticism of Israel,” she said. Hamas killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took about 240 hostages, according to the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) count. Queen Rania questioned how many more people must die before “our global conscience awakes.”“All they want to hear is apologies from Palestinians.

King Abdullah II of Jordan said on Monday that his country’s air force had airdropped “urgent medical aid” to a field hospital operated by the kingdom in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military confirmed the unusual move and said in a statement that it had been a coordinated effort between the neighboring nations. Israel’s blockade and recent siege of Gaza have put some hospitals out of service, and aid deliveries through the Rafah crossing with Egypt have been inadequate, humanitarian groups say. This appeared to be the first time in this war that aid was dropped into Gaza from the air. “The return of the ambassadors will be tied to Israel stopping its war on Gaza and stopping the humanitarian disaster,” the foreign ministry said.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli troops early Monday had surrounded Gaza City and cut off the northern part of the besieged territory as communications lost for several hours across Gaza overnight were gradually being restored. Some 800,000 people have heeded Israeli military orders to flee to southern Gaza, even though Israel had continued airstrikes in the area. Strikes in central and southern Gaza — the purported safe zone — killed at least 53 people on Sunday. The Israeli military said late Sunday that it had severed northern Gaza from the south, calling it a “significant stage” in the war. GAZA, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Having rebuffed calls for a ceasefire, Israel was set to come under sustained pressure on Monday to avoid civilian casualties during its assault on Gaza, while a U.S. diplomatic blitz in the region sought to reduce risks of the conflict escalating. But after Blinken repeated U.S. concerns that a ceasefire could aid Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruled that out unless hostages held by Hamas were released. "We demand that you stop them from committing these crimes immediately," Abbas told Blinken, urging an "immediate ceasefire" from Israel. "Stop in the name of God," he said, calling for humanitarian aid and help for the injured to ease the "very grave" situation in Gaza. Instead, the U.S. wants localized pauses in fighting to allow in humanitarian aid and for people to leave Gaza.

By Dan WilliamsJERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is talking to medical agencies about setting up field hospitals in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, where it has told Palestinian civilians to seek refuge while it fights Hamas in the north, an Israeli official said on Thursday. "Right now, we are talking about field hospitals that would provide the basic medical care required for war trauma," Goren told Reuters. "Field hospitals can, potentially, be equipped to provide specialised medical care, given their modular structure, but this would be further down the line. The charity Medical Aid for Palestinians on Thursday described the situation in hospitals as "beyond catastrophic" with dwindling fuel, packed corridors and many medics themselves bereaved and homeless. We are doing everything possible to get more humanitarian aid in," he said, adding that the limitations on aid trucks entering Gaza were down to logistical challenges, not Israeli restrictions.

Group members said Russian occupiers are snuffing out religious and other freedoms in areas of Ukraine under Russian control. “We are eyewitnesses of Russian atrocities going on in our country,” said Metropolitan Yevstratiy Zoria, a representative of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has declared its independence from Moscow and proclaimed its loyalty to Ukraine, but a government study commission contended that the UOC remains a structural unit of the Russian Orthodox Church. The other separate, but similarly-named church, Orthodox Church of Ukraine, was officially recognized as independent by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople in 2019, but the Russian church has disputed the legitimacy of that recognition. Zoria decried statements by Moscow Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, who has strongly supported the war as part of a metaphysical battle against Western liberalism and has said the Russian war dead have their sins forgiven.

Israel has said Gaza's militant Hamas rulers have a command post under the hospital, without providing much evidence. The Israeli military had no immediate comment when asked about reports of strikes near Shifa. Casualties on both sides are expected to rise sharply as Israeli forces and Palestinian militants battle in dense residential areas. Despite the Israeli offensive, Palestinian militants have continued firing rockets into Israel, with the constant sirens in southern Israel a reminder of the threat. Israel says its strikes target Hamas fighters and infrastructure and that the militants operate among civilians, putting them in danger.

Cyberattacks Intensify on Israeli, Palestinian Groups

The rise in cyberattacks on Israeli human-rights organization B'Tselem has reached levels similar to activity seen during the conflict between Israel and Hamas in 2014, said Roy Yellin, the organization's director of public outreach. The personal mobile phone number of B'Tselem’s executive director was published online, prompting hundreds of calls and text messages, Yellin said. Israeli nonprofit United Hatzalah, which provides volunteer emergency medical services, posted on X that it had blocked access to its donation site from certain countries because of “a large number of cyber attacks against us.” U.K.-based Medical Aid for Palestinians, which provides emergency relief to people in Gaza, said on X that a cyberattack on its website was “an apparent attempt to prevent people donating towards our medical relief efforts.”

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted on April 15 over tensions linked to a planned transition to civilian rule. It has devastated the capital Khartoum and sparked ethnically driven attacks in Darfur. The RSF quickly controlled the capital and residents have accused it of looting and occupying homes. The army, which has maintained control of its bases, has launched major airstrikes and artillery fire. Within Khartoum, the RSF has launched attacks on several army bases, including the main army headquarters and the armoured corps base.
